The Origin of the Pilates

From Germany where he grew up, to New York where he established his studio,Joseph Pilates (1880-1967) devoted his entire life to the study of bodywork and movement ...
65 years spent working with athletes, businessmen, circus artists, musicians, dancers, actors ... is what it took, along with assistance from his wife Clara, to develop this sophisticated system of movement that is comprised of over 500 exercises.

Exercises are done on both the mat and and the original equipment (reformer, cadillac ...).  Whether done on the mat or apparatus, these exercises are complementary and allow for countless combinations.

The limitless possibilities that the method offers allows us to take into account the possibilities, limitations and objectives of all of our clients while keeping in mind several key principles:

  • Breathing
  • Body awareness
  • Concentration and control
  • Centering
  • Precision
  • Fluidity and rhythm

At INSPIRE, we’ve added another key principle: The Joy of Movement
