Pilates and Dance

At the end of the 1920s, Joseph Pilates established his studio in the same building that housed the New York City Ballet on 8th Avenue in Manhattan.

As a result of this proximity, dancers were some of the first to come to Mr. Pilates to rehabilitate their injuries and improve their dance technique.

George Balanchine, was among the great dancers of the 20th century who incorporated Pilates into their program of study.

Ever since then, dancers have benefited from the practice of Pilates.
